What Is OTC Derivatives & Spot FX Trading?

What OTC derivatives are

OTC stands for over the counter. An OTC derivative is a financial contract whose value follows the price of an underlying market, such as a currency pair, a metal or an energy product, and which is traded directly between the client and the broker rather than on a central exchange. This structure allows flexible trade sizes and access to a wide range of markets from one account.

What spot FX trading is

Spot FX is the exchange of one currency for another at the current market price, known as the spot rate. It is the most direct way to trade the currency market, where movements between currencies such as the euro, the US dollar, the pound and the yen create trading opportunities throughout the day.

How clients access the service

Access is through an approved trading account on MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5. Once your application is reviewed and approved, you trade live prices with the tools professional traders use, on web, mobile and desktop.

Who the service may be suitable for

This service is designed for clients who understand leveraged products, accept the risks involved and want direct access to currency, metals and energy markets. It is not suitable for everyone, and our review process exists to confirm the service is appropriate for your circumstances.

Risks and eligibility

Leverage magnifies both gains and losses, and trading can result in the loss of your invested capital. Every applicant completes an eligibility and classification review, and full risk disclosures are provided before any account is approved.

Important Risks to Understand

Leverage Risk

Leverage magnifies outcomes in both directions. A small market movement can produce a large gain or a large loss relative to your initial outlay.

Market Risk

Prices can move quickly and against your position, at any hour the market is open.

Liquidity Risk

In some conditions, trading certain products may become difficult, and prices may move sharply between trades.

Execution Risk

Orders may not always execute at the expected price, particularly in fast or thin markets.

Counterparty Risk

OTC trading involves exposure to the counterparty to your transactions.

Currency Risk

Exchange-rate movements may affect the value of positions and balances held in other currencies.

These summaries are a starting point. Read the complete risk disclosure before applying.

A demo account is the sensible first step. It gives you a simulated environment where you can:

  • Learn your way around MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5
  • Review the charts, indicators and tools
  • Practise placing, modifying and closing orders
  • Build confidence with platform functions before any capital is involved

* Demo activity does not represent real trading results, and outcomes in a demo environment may differ from live trading.
